(New York, NY) – Pro-Palestine protesters caused disruptions and blocked traffic at key locations across the US on Monday — and New York City was not spared from the chaos. It was around 3:00 PM when a group of protesters carrying the flags of Palestine and Hezbollah stormed past the New York Stock Exchange in Lower Manhattan. From there, they marched across the Brooklyn Bridge and attempted to block traffic. The group was ushered onto the bridge’s sidewalks and NYPD responded.
Elsewhere, protests unfolded in California, as protesters blocked traffic on every one of the Golden Gate Bridge’s southbound lanes. The California Highway Patrol classified it as a “peaceful protest” but said some arrests were made. A group of around a dozen protesters blocked traffic on the highway leading to Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport, forcing some travelers to ditch their ride and walk along the roadway to check in. Similar events were reported at a Boeing plant in St. Louis, Missouri and at a jet engine plant in Middletown, Connecticut.
Online the group organizing these protests vowed to create traffic blockades and stop shipping activity at ports around the world today — to that end, a protest unfolded at ports in Long Branch and Oakland, CA. Some held signs like “free Gaza” while others demanded the US end any military support for Israel.
