(Memphis, TN) – It was on April 4, 1968 when civil rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was assassinated in Memphis, Tennessee. In recognition of the 56th anniversary, the National Civil Rights Museum will host its annual remembrance.
There will be a series of speakers delivering comments at the event. Dr. King Jr.’s son, Martin Luther King Jr. the Third, is among those scheduled to speak. They’ll gather at the Lorraine Motel, where James Earl Ray fired the shot that killed Dr. King. Ray fled and was eventually captured in the United Kingdom
Following a guilty plea, Ray was sentenced to 99 years in prison. The Lorraine Motel now houses the museum. During the event, winners of the Young Poetry and Spoken Word Competition will perform.
