(New York, NY) — It was a wild scene on a packed “A” train in Brooklyn during the evening rush Thursday, when two men got into a fight that ended with bullets flying. Eyewitnesses say the men started yelling at each other as the subway headed towards the Hoyt Street station in downtown Brooklyn around 5 p.m. The battle quickly turned physical. As it did, a gun fell out of the pocket of one of the men. The other straphanger picked it up and fired a shot hitting the owner of the gun in the head. Riders on the train tried to shield themselves as the bullets flew by running to the other end of the car. Police met the subway as it rolled into the Hoyt street station. The victim was rushed to the hospital in critical condition. The man who fired off the shots was taken into custody. No other riders were hurt, but many say they feared for their lives.
Less than an hour later, a 19-year-old woman was shot in the hip after getting off a bus in Hollis, Queens. Police say she had words with someone on a NICE bus around 6:15 p.m. at Jamaica Avenue and 205th Street when she was shot. The victim was transported to a nearby hospital and is expected to make a full recovery. No arrests have been made.
