Prosecutors Request 30-Day Delay in Trump Case

The Manhattan District Attorney has requested a 30-day delay in former President Trump's so-called "hush money" trial.

(New York, NY) – Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg has asked for a 30-day delay in the so-called “hush money” case against former President Trump. The Republican candidate for president was set to go on trial in under two weeks. But the US Attorney for the Southern District apparently submitted thousands of documents in the case, so now Trump’s legal team will have additional time to review that.

This is all centered on a payment Trump allegedly made to porn star Stormy Daniels ahead of the 2016 election. The claim is that he paid Daniels to remain quiet about an affair. Prosecutors maintain Trump did so to protect his chances in the election, so they argue such a payment ought to have been classified as a campaign expense. So, the DA’s office says it does “not oppose a brief adjournment of up to 30 days.”

Manhattan Supreme Court Justice Juan Merchan will ultimately issue a decision on the request for a delay. In a statement, District Attorney Bragg seemed to place blame on federal prosecutors, saying he’d requested the documents over a “year ago.” He went on to say the Federal Government previously declined to provide them. The US Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York did not provide a comment in response, according to reporting in the New York Post.
