(New York, NY) — Krispy Kreme, the donut chain says it’s thinking about shutting down it’s location inside the Fulton Transit Center Mall, because crime is so bad there. Commuters say the mall, that is connected to the Fulton Street subway station in Lower Manhattan, has become a haven for the homeless. Many say they once frequented the stores inside, but now walk out of the mall for fear of the becoming the next victim. The workers at coffee shop inside Fulton say they routinely find themselves in uncomfortable or dangerous moments with people who sleep inside the mall.
Westfield, which manages the mall says it wants to end its lease and stop operations. They are blaming crime, security and public safety for wanting out. Westfield still has ten years left on its lease with the MTA ,which built the Fulton Transit Center Mall. The MTA says it’s ready to fight Westfield in court to honor the lease.
