(Maplewood, NJ)  — The principal of Columbia High School in Maplewood New Jersey is under arrest for alleged assault.  The Essex County Prosecutor’s office says Frank Sanchez is charged with endangering the welfare of a child. The charges are in connection with an incident back in 2023.  Prosecutors have not detailed what took place that led to the arrest Meantime, the Black Parents Workshop, a district advocacy group, claims the incident involved Sanchez and a female student at the school. Sanchez has been on leave since January.

Meanwhile, Maplewood school officials are apologizing after a vice-principal sent teachers a virtual flyer discussing Ramadan celebrations in the classroom. It accuses the U.S. of co-conspiring with Israel to prevent Muslim Palestinians from partaking in Ramadan. It also makes mention of a Zionist occupation and genocide. The school system has not said if the vice-principal, who called the incident an accident will be punished.
