A 19-year-old dual citizen with ties to NYC has been confirmed among the people killed by Hamas in Gaza on October 7, 2023.

(Tel Aviv) – A dual citizen with ties to New York City was killed by Hamas in Gaza. The Israeli Defense Forces announced 19-year-old Itay Chen was among the victims killed during the October 7 terrorist attacks. Officials also say Chen’s body continues to be held in Gaza.
There had been reports that he was believed to be alive, being held hostage. New York Governor Kathy Hochul responded to the news and offered Chen’s family condolences. She recalled meeting with the young man’s father, adding she heard Chen was a wonderful young man.
“May his memory be a blessing,” Hochul offered. Meanwhile, after recent talks failed to result in a ceasefire agreement, many in Gaza are bracing for an IDF assault against the city of Rafah.
