Singer Steve Lawrence Has Died At 88

Two of the most popular and durable stars of American popular music, Steve Lawrence and Eydie Gorme, will perform in concert in Uihlein Hall at the Performing Arts Center on Monday, June 18, for one show only. The Grammy-winning couple have one of show business' longest-lasting marriages and will be singing together in Milwaukee for the first time. The singers' concert of classic pop songs will be backed by a full orchestra. Tickets go on sale Sunday at the PAC box office and at Ticketron outlets. (New York, NY) — Award-winning singer and actor Steve Lawrence has died at the age of 88 due to complications from Alzheimer’s disease. He died at his Los Angeles home.  Lawrence, one-half of the popular duo Steve and Eydie. Lawrence and Gormé, who died in 2013 charted with hits from the 1950s through the 1970s. They toured the country up until 2009.

Lawrence, was born Sidney Liebowitz in Brooklyn. He was the son of a cantor. His big break came on the Steve Allen show. He later would become a regular with his wife on the Tonight show with Johnny Carson  According to a spokesperson for the family, the cause of death was complications from Alzheimer’s disease. Lawrence leaves behind a son, David Lawrence, who composed the score for “High School Musical.”
