Here’s How To Protect Your Veggie Garden, NYC

(New York, NY) – If you’ve got a green thumb, chances are you’ve done battle with critters once or twice. In the more rural areas it might be a rabbit that’s nibbling on your veggies. Suburban gardeners know all about groundhogs and squirrels. And for city dwellers — rats often cause problems when trying to grow carrots, celery, peppers, peas, tomatoes and avocados.

But this spring and summer — the Big Apple is helping people strike back. Beginning later this month, “Rat Academy” classes are being offered through the New York City Health Department. Because rats are so resilient and inventive when it comes to getting after your garden, officials recognize New Yorkers could use some help. So, these two hour classes are offered both in person and online. The rat management course and guidelines are offered in English, Spanish, and Cantonese. “Rat Academy” courses are also offered each fall.
