(Paramus, NJ) — First Lady Tammy Murphy was the winner in a key Democratic convention in her bid to become a U.S. Senator in New Jersey. Governor Phil Murphy’s wife defeated fellow Democrat, Representative Andy Kim at last night’s Bergen County Democratic convention in Paramus. The two are looking to take over Democrat Bob Menendez’s senate seat. Murphy launched her bid for Senator in November. The 58-year-old has taken on maternal and infant health and the environment as her top issues as first lady.
Democrats are waiting to see if Senator Bob Menendez will mount a re-election campaign. The federal judge in his bribery trial has ruled that gold bars and other evidence seized in the investigation are admissible. During the searches of Menendez’s home in Englewood Cliffs in June of 2022, FBI agents seized several gold bars and hundreds-of-thousands of dollars in cash. U.S. District Judge Sidney Stein disagreed with Menendez that the search warrants were flawed and misleading and did not violate his Fourth Amendment rights.
