100 Killed, 700 Injured After Stampede in Gaza

Attendees gather for a vigil in the US following a 2023 bombing in Gaza.

(Tel Aviv) – Palestinian officials say at least 100 people are dead, and upward of 700 are injured, after an incident unfolded in Gaza City. Apparently, aid trucks had entered with food and supplies, and a massive crowd surrounded the vehicles. According to the IDF, that’s when troops eventually responded with live fire — as they reportedly felt the crowd posed a threat.

In the ensuing chaos, people were trampled — which accounts for the majority of the deaths and injuries. Still, reports indicate that IDF fire struck some of the people gathered.

Meanwhile, back in the US, President Biden spoke from the White House on Thursday before heading for Texas and said he no longer expects a ceasefire agreement by Monday. Earlier in the week he’d said that was his hope. Negotiators are trying to achieve a pause in the fighting so that hostages can be freed. They’ve been held by Hamas since they launched terrorist attacks on October 7, 2023.
