Neighbor Speaks Out After LI Stabbing of Parents

A neighbor says she's heartbroken after a son allegedly stabbed his parents on Long Island. "A family shattered," she said -- while blaming mental illness.

(New Hyde Park, NY) – On Saturday, Nassau County police arrested a man in New Hyde Park, after he allegedly assaulted both his parents. Now, 24-year-old Joshua Wilck has been charged with attempted murder — and a neighbor is speaking out with harrowing details of what happened that night.

A woman and her husband who live two doors down explain they were lying in bed that night around 11:00 PM when she heard the doorbell ringing, and a banging at the door. Through her front door’s glass window she saw a white figure she described as almost “ghost like” — it was her neighbor, who was covered in blood. She says the man told them he’d just been attacked by his son.

“Mental illness needs to be treated like cancer in this country,” the neighbor demanded. She declined to go into specifics but indicated she wasn’t shocked that Wilck had been involved in a violent incident. Pressed if drug use could also be involved, the neighbor declined to say.

Police say both of Wilck’s parents — his 60-year-old father and 64-year-old mother — suffered significant cuts after he used a knife during the attack. They also claim he choked his father after the man tried to flee the home. The neighbor we spoke with reports the mom is already back home, while the father remained hospitalized as of Tuesday. Nassau County cops described their injuries as critical at one point.

Wilck has since been ordered to stay away from his family and a judge ordered him held on $400,000 bond or $200,000 cash. WPIX 11 reports the disagreement may have resulted from Wilck’s parents attempting to take away his MacBook laptop.
