(Poughkeepsie, NY) — Firefighters and police in Poughkeepsie were racing across a section of the city Sunday afternoon, after a five-year-old went missing. He was found after a long search in chest high water in a drainage ditch. Firefighters tried to revive the boy, but they say he passed away. It’s not clear how long the child was in the water. Police did not say how the boy was able to walk of his home alone.
Neighbors say police were frantically knocking on doors asking everyone if they had seen the five-year-old. The child had been last spotted on Manchester Road around 2 p.m., wearing a blue shirt and diaper. He was found around 4 p.m. Last night the fire department chaplain was brought in to console the firefighters who found and then tried to revive the boy.
