(San Diego, CA) — Five Marines aboard a helicopter that went missing in the California mountains this week have been found dead. The Marines were involved in a training exercise, flying from Creech Nevada to San Diego, California when it crashed late Tuesday night. The helicopter was found in a mountainous area about 30 miles East of the San Diego military base they were flying to. Search and rescue crews scoured the mountains looking for the Marines. Bad weather, including snow complicated the search.
The five Marines killed were assigned to Marine Heavy Helicopter Squadron 361, Marine Aircraft Group 16, 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing.
