(Washington, DC) — Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas get to keeps his job.  In a full floor vote last night, the House voted not to impeach Mayorkas. Three Republicans joined Democrats in voting against the impeachment. The final vote was 214-216.  Republican Speaker Mike Johnson told reporters ahead of the vote that Mayorkas engaged in a “complete dereliction of duty” in his handling of the southern border. He accused the secretary of willfully refusing to enforce immigration laws.

A spokesperson for DHS called the impeachment baseless and said that it should not have moved forward. Had the vote passed, Mayorkas would have become the first cabinet official impeached for nearly 150 years.
