Historic Takedown Alleges Public Housing Bribery

syndication-siouxfalls-2

The DOJ announced the arrest of upward of 70 NYCHA employees in an alleged bribery scheme.

(New York, NY) – In what is being called one of the largest single-day bribery takedowns in US history, upward of 70 New York City Housing Authority are under arrest. Federal prosecutors allege the workers accepted bribes in exchange for steering city contracts toward specific companies. US Attorney Damian Williams says the criminal conduct took place from 2013 until 2023.

The defendants include both current and former NYCHA employees. In total, alleged bribes totaled $2 million — in exchange for more than $13 million in city contracts. Prosecutors say if contractors failed to pay kickbacks, they failed to win future bids. The criminal charges also claim superintendents at nearly a third of all NYCHA buildings routinely accepted bribes, or looked to extort contractors.
