WASHINGTON DC— A Federal appeals court on Tuesday ruled that Donald Trump is not immune from prosecution, for alleged crimes he committed in order to reverse the 2020 election results. The ruling could be a major setback for Trump. The court ruled “For the purpose of this criminal case, former President Trump has become citizen Trump”, with all of the defenses of any other criminal defendant. The court went on to say that any executive immunity that may have protected Trump while he served as President no longer protects him against this prosecution.
The Trump campaign says the former President respectfully disagrees with the decision and is appealing the ruling to the Supreme Court, which could possibly push a trial date until after the 2024 election.
