World Cup final will be played in NJ

(East Rutherford, NJ) — New Jersey won it’s bid to hold the World Cup final in 2026 at MetLife stadium in East Rutherford. Governor Murphy and New York City Mayor Adams made the winning pitch to soccer’s governing body, FIFA. New Jersey beat out Dallas and Los Angeles to host the final.

United States men’s national team head coach, Gregg Berhalter is from Englewood, New Jersey. He says it will be amazing to have a World Cup final so close to home.  FIFA announced Sunday that the championship match will be played July 19th, 2026. New York and New Jersey will host a total of eight matches throughout the soccer tournament. Governor Murphy’s office estimates the economic impact on the region will be close to a half-billion dollars. The tournament will kick off on June 11th of 2026.
