(New York, NY) — Jewish students and teachers were rallying outside the Department of Education on Wednesday, because they say the New York City public school system is not doing enough to protect them in class. One high school student detailed how her fellow students threw coins at her and yelled anti-Jewish slurs as she gave a presentation before class. Other students say they have been harassed by pro-Palestinian teachers for openly supporting Israel.
The group of protestors are calling on Schools Chancellor David Banks to do more to protect Jewish students and teachers. Last week, Banks initiated a program that he says will begin to tackle the issue of Anti-Semitism and Islamophobia in city schools.
