Research suggests calcium may become a key component in creating a powerful "anti-tumor" drug.

(New York, NY) – New research out of South Korea suggests an encouraging development may be afoot in the battle against cancer. Scientists at Ewha Womens University in Seoul say they’ve created a powerful chemical compound that’s proven effective at getting rid of tumor cells. Their findings were recently published in the journal Angewandte Chemie.
An over abundance of calcium ions have been linked to health problems, as they can suffocate mitochondria’s proper function as the “powerhouse” of cells. But that very same harmful effect is apparently being used to fight and destroy tumor cells. Scientists call it a “calcium storm” that creates an “anti-tumor” formula.
This development comes on the heels of a new test for ovarian cancer that uses artificial intelligence. It can help detect the disease sooner that other methods. Researchers at Georgia Tech just published those results in late January.
As for the calcium discovery and its potential anti-tumor properties, the hope is it can lead to further biomedical research and developments.
