(Brooklyn, NY) — There are concerns about the water at a NYCHA housing complex in Brownsville, Brooklyn after two residents have been diagnosed with Legionnaires disease. The city’s Health Department says the neighbors at the Langston Hughes Houses were infected within the past 12 months. The Health Department is taking samples of the building’s water system to see if their is evidence of Legionella, the type of bacteria that causes Legionnaires disease. The disease can be treated with drugs, but the Health Department says it also can sometimes be deadly.
