(New York, NY) – Broadway star Chita Rivera has died at 91. Her daughter says she died in New York following a brief illness. The Tony award winning actress, dancer, and singer is most remembered for her starring role as Anita in the original production of West Side Story. She also performed in the original casts of Chicago and Bye Bye Birdie.
Rivera received 10 Tony nominations, winning the prestigious award twice. She was presented with the Presidential Medal of Freedom by President Obama in 2009.
