Longtime CBS News Anchor Charles Osgood Dies

Osgood, who anchored the popular news magazine's for more than two decades, was host of the long-running radio program “The Osgood File” and was referred to as CBS News’ poet-in-residence, has died. Osgood died Tuesday, January 23, 2024 at his home in NJ. He was 91.

(New York, NY) – Charles Osgood, a New York City native and iconic broadcaster, has died at the age of 91. His family says he was battling dementia before passing away at his home in New Jersey. Born in the Bronx, Osgood attended high school in Englewood, New Jersey and eventually graduated from Fordham University.

No stranger to the New York radio airwaves, Osgood took over for Charles Kuralt as the host of CBS News’ Sunday Morning in 1994. He retired from that position and was replaced by Jane Pauley in 2016.

Osgood also produced “The Osgood File,” radio commentaries from 1971 until 2017.
