Mayor Adams Suing Charter Bus Companies

mixcollage-04-jan-2024-03-32-pm-618

(New York, NY) – Mayor Eric Adams and New York City’s Corporation Counsel have announced a $708 million lawsuit against charter bus companies — for allegedly violating state law by failing to provide for the migrants they’ve transported to New York. This follows Texas Governor Gregg Abbott’s move to send upward of 33,600 migrants to Manhattan via bus, over the past 20 months or so. Mayor Adams says that’s left the city on the hook for the cost, and now he’s looking to recoup those expenses, via this lawsuit.

Adams says while New York will continue to do its part in dealing with the migrant crisis, he also blasted Governor Abbott and suggested the bussing of migrants north is a “political stunt.” But Abbott and other officials in spots along the US southern border argue they can’t bear the brunt of the influx of migrants on their own — so Abbott began bussing them to so-called sanctuary cities. New York has been a sanctuary city for years and it’s something progressive politicians have celebrated — some in the past vowed never to work with Immigrations and Customs Enforcement (ICE) — and former Governor Andrew Cuomo once called them thugs.
