NEW YORK, NEW YORK – The FDNY is investigating reports of an underground explosion resulting in power outages on Roosevelt Island Tuesday morning.
The blasts came in just before 6 a.m. when the FDNY received calls about the small explosions from Roosevelt Island, the Upper East Side, and Astoria, Queens.
Buildings at 2 and 4 River Road just south of the Roosevelt Island Bridge and Tram were experiencing power outages, indicating that the incident could have been electrical.
There were no injuries reported and streets are also open with traffic running slow due to heavy FDNY presence.
The FDNY has turned the scene over to Con Edison after declaring the area safe.
