Flood Waters Are Receding in NJ… But Slowly

syndication-the-record-121

Ducks shared the road with cars that were left stranded in floodwaters on River Street in Paterson, NJ on Monday Dec. 18, 2023.

(Paterson, NJ) – There’s still no end in sight for New Jersey’s latest flooding nightmare, which resulted from last weekend’s heavy rainfall that continued into Monday. School has been canceled for the rest of the week in Paterson, and communities within Lincoln Park, Wayne, Little Falls — as well as other spots — continue to be inundated with flooding. Water rescues were made on Wednesday in Little Falls, and some homes in Paterson have water up to their front door.

The Passaic River has crested, but the water level is still rising in some spots — as the reservoir upstream has to release water at times, causing more flooding in spots like Paterson and Little Falls. Many homes still don’t have power, and all that cold water is helping mold form, which will only increase the cost of the damage. On Wednesday alone, more than 24 people were rescued in spots around northern New Jersey.
