(Little Falls, NJ) — The Passaic River is finally starting to recede in Northern New Jersey, but not after flooding homes and businesses overnight in towns like Little Falls, Paterson and Lincoln Park. A Lincoln Park family says they had just moved into their home weeks back, and watched on last night as flood water roses as high as the first floor. First responders say they were busy overnight rescuing people from their flooded out homes. Paterson is still under a city wide state of emergency. Schools there are closed again today.

The Passaic River began overflowing its banks around 2 p.m. Tuesday, moving into a number of towns and cities. Local police departments warned homeowners to get out earlier in the day, but many stayed put and found themselves trapped by rising waters. First responders say they did help some of those trapped, including a man who needed dialysis, and a teenager who was trapped in her house all alone.
