Trump will likely appeal the ruling.
(Denver, CO) – The Colorado Supreme Court has ordered that former President Donald Trump is barred from appearing on the state’s presidential ballot next year — in connection to alleged offenses on January 6, 2021. The court determined Trump violated the 14th Amendment’s ban on “insurrection” — under the claim he encouraged violent demonstrations at the US Capitol.
Earlier cases of a similar structure in Michigan and Minnesota were won by Trump, meaning he will appear on those state’s ballots for 2024. The Colorado Supreme Court says if Trump appeals the ruling prior to January 4, 2024 then he can remain on the ballot. Many legal experts expect the US Supreme Court to eventually weigh in.
