Actor Andre Braugher, dead at 61.
(Los Angeles, CA) – An actor well known for playing police officers on TV — including his role as NYPD Captain Holt on “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” — has died. Andre Braugher was 61 years old and passed away following a brief illness in Los Angeles.
An Emmy winner dating back to his time on “Homicide: Life on the Street,” Braugher displayed his acting jobs portraying the hard-nosed Detective Frank Pembleton in the Baltimore-based drama. He thanked the “Charm City” when accepting his Emmy award in 1998. And Former Baltimore Sun reporter David Simon, whos work inspired the series, called Braugher the best actor he’s worked with. Simon notably also created The Wire based on hit time spent in Baltimore.
As for Braugher, who showed off his comedic prowess during his time on “Brooklyn Nine-Nine,” he also had credits on “Law & Order: SVU,” “The Tuskegee Airmen,” and more. It’s not immediately clear what his illness entailed or how long it afflicted Braugher.
