(Bristol, CT) – Disney is going to tell the Brittney Griner story. A documentary will be produced by ESPN Films, coming close to two years after Griner was arrested at a Moscow airport for possession of cannabis. In addition to the documentary, the WNBA star will sit with veteran ABC News anchor Robin Roberts for a lengthy, one-one-interview. Roberts is a longtime sports reporter and former ESPN anchor.

ABC Signature is also producing a scripted series that will tackle the Griner story. In a statement, she described the previous two years as “the most harrowing, transformative and illuminating period” of her entire life. Following her arrest, Griner was held in prison for months, and was eventually released as part of a prisoner swap that saw the US free Viktor Bout — a notorious Russian arms dealer often known as “the Merchant of Death.”
