Will Israel flood Hamas tunnels in Gaza?

(Gaza City, Gaza) — The “Wall Street Journal” reporting today that Israel is considering a plan to flood Hamas’ network of tunnels beneath Gaza. The move could make them unusable for the Palestinian militant group, but it could also harm the Gaza Strip’s limited water supply. The newspaper says that Israel has already built a system of large pumps to send seawater in from the Mediterranean and could have all the tunnels flooded within weeks.  Each pump reportedly has the power to move thousands of cubic meters of water per hour, into the hundreds of tunnels that Hamas has used for years to move about Gaza undetected.  Israel’s biggest concern about the plan is said to be that some of the Israeli hostages are still being held by Hamas in those underground tunnels.
