News: House of Representatives speaker election
(New York, NY) — Embattled Long Island Republican Congressman George Santos says he expects to be expelled from office and it could come as soon as this week. A House Ethics Committee said it found evidence that Santos used his campaign funds for personal use, violated other laws and lied about his education. Santos went on a rant on X, formerly known as Twitter, over the holiday weekend, writing his colleagues are hypocrites and get drunk and that Congress is full of felons. Santos is also facing federal wire fraud and money laundering charges, all of which he denies.
While Santos has survived two expulsion votes, many of his colleagues who formerly opposed the effort now say they support it, citing an ethics report into a wide range of alleged misconduct by Santos. The report found Santos used campaign funds for personal purposes, such as purchases at luxury retailers and adult content websites, then caused the campaign to file false or incomplete reports.
