New York library
(New York, NY) – New Yorkers will soon be out of luck if they want to go to the library on a Sunday. Amid Mayor Adams’ budget cuts, the New York Public Library system will be closing all eight branches in Bronx, Manhattan, and Staten Island on Sundays — beginning December 3rd.
The Brooklyn and Queens Public Library systems are also making Sunday cutbacks, but those will begin in December. Come December 17th, just one library in New York City will be open on Sundays — Kew Gardens Hill in Queens.
The Adams administration has blamed the budget cuts on the migrant crisis, expiring COVID-19 stimulus money from the federal government, and lower occupancy rates for offices following the pandemic — which has led to declining tax revenue.
