(New York, NY) – Mayor Eric Adams says he’s hired a private law firm to represent him as the FBI conducts a reported investigation into his campaign finances. It was last Thursday when Adams cut short a trip to Washington, DC, after his top fundraising official 25-year-old Brianna Suggs had her Brooklyn home raided by FBI agents.

Reporters asked Adams why he chose to return to New York that day, given he had meetings planned with White House officials to discuss the ongoing migrant crisis. He gave two reasons. One, he wanted to make sure his campaign was acting properly in response to the day’s events. Adams also explained he’s known Suggs since she was an intern in his office, while serving as Brooklyn Borough President, so he wanted to support her during a traumatic experience. But, Adams admitted he didn’t speak with Suggs that day.

At issue is an alleged “straw donor” scheme that may have involved a construction firm and the Turkish government. It’s illegal for foreign governments to make donations to campaigns in US elections.
