Landlord accused of starting fire to chase tenants out

(New York, NY) — A Brooklyn landlord is now facing attempted murder and arson charges for allegedly setting fire to a home with tenants inside. The NYPD says Rafiqul Islam was mad his tenants were not paying rent. He’s accused of setting fire to the stairs of the home on Forbell Street in East New York, last month. The fire trapped two adults and six children before firefighters rescued them.
