(Smithtown. NY) — A surprise announcement from the top cop in Suffolk County. Police Commissioner Rodney Harrison is stepping down. Just months after overseeing the arrest of the suspected Gilgo Beach serial killer. Harrison told officers in the department about his departure Thursday and says he will formally submit his resignation to County Executive Steve Bellone today. Harrison, a former NYPD Chief of Department, took over as Suffolk Police Commissioner in January 2022, No word why he is calling it quits, or when he will step down.
