(New York, NY) — A man is now free after spending the night trapped inside a Jewelry store vault in Midtown, Manhattan. Officials say the man was inside the vault when a timed lock mechanism kicked in, locking the vault around 8:45 last night. Firefighters tried cutting open the vault overnight but stopped because tools used at that point would risk the person’s safety inside. The vault then automatically unlocked at about 6:15 this morning.
