(Tel Aviv, Israel) — President Biden is in Israel today, making history as the first American president to visit the country while it is at war. Biden was greeted at Ben Gurion airport with a warm hug from Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. The trip comes as many in the region are still reeling from an explosion at a hospital in the Gaza Strip that Hamas health officials claim killed hundreds on Tuesday. Biden says it appears the explosion at a hospital was not the work of Israeli forces. Israel says it no longer believes the explosion at the hospital was a mass casualty event. The President says that his trip is to “stand in solidarity” with Israel and “consult on next steps” in its war against Hamas.
