crane collapse
(New York, NY) – Motorists are dealing with even more headaches than usual when approaching the Lincoln Tunnel in Manhattan. That’s because this past summer’s crane collapse is finally being removed.
It was back in July when a fire broke out inside the crane’s engine, leading to a dramatic collapse in Midtown Manhattan that damaged a nearby building and injured a dozen people. The crane’s massive arm went down along 10th Avenue and paralyzed the surrounding streets for hours. On Monday, crews began the removal process, which is expected to be completed later this week. Workers are strategically removing counterweights as well as the crane’s frame.
Meanwhile, city officials continue to investigate the collapse itself, as well as the crane company.
