NEW YORK , NY –New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy calling on Democratic Sen. Bob Menendez to resign after he and his wife were charged with corruption-related offenses.
In a statement Murphy says “The alleged facts are so serious that they compromise the ability of Senator Menendez to effectively represent the people of our state. Therefore, I am calling for his immediate resignation.”
The Justice Department said Menendez illegally accepted 400-thousand-dollars in gold bars from a convicted felon, plus cash, a luxury car, and apartment. This was allegedly in exchange for offering to contact the DOJ to help a developer who was facing bank fraud charges.
Menendez says he’s a victim of a smear campaign.
Corruption charges Menendez in 2015 that were dropped.
