NJ Transit derailment
(Newark, NJ) – NJ Transit rail service has resumed in and out of Penn Station in Manhattan following an earlier slow-speed derailment. Following the original derailment, Midtown Direct service had been diverted to Hoboken. The derailment happened just outside the tunnel in New Jersey that leads into Midtown Manhattan. No injuries were reported with that incident.
Around 1,500 people were on board trains at the time of the derailment, which occurred around 9:00 AM. Amtrak is also warning about delays as a result of the disabled train — in particular between New York Penn and Newark Penn. It’s not clear what impact will be felt during the evening rush, but the safe bet is that delays will persist into the night.
