(Brooklyn, NY) – A 19-year-old man was shot in the butt and later hospitalized in stable condition after a violent incident broke out at the West Indian Day Parade on Labor Day. It happened around 5:20 PM according to cops. During the fight a 20-year-old and 16-year-old suffered slash wounds. Charges were reportedly pending as detectives continued their investigation.
Separately, a 38-year-old man got into a fight about an hour earlier. He allegedly pulled out a gun and accidentally shot himself in the leg. That man was hospitalized and also arrested.
Meanwhile, the overnight J’Ouvert festival, leading into the West Indian Day Parade, was largely peaceful. NYPD officials say it was the most peaceful J’Ouvert in history. Around 75 dirt bikes were seized and five people were arrested with guns. Cops say they were successful using drones and “violence interrupters” in a bid to keep things calm.
