Supersonic Jet NYC to London
(New York, NY) – NASA is testing an experimental supersonic jet that could take you from New York City to London in just 90 minutes. That means you’d shave over five hours off the average flight length.
The concept plane could travel at Mach 4 – which is four times faster than Mach 1, or the speed of sound. It would also have a unique shape, spreading out supersonic shockwaves, and reducing the familiar sonic boom heard at ground level.
Supersonic transatlantic flight hasn’t been an option for over two decades, after the Concorde was retired due to operating costs. It was jointly developed by the British and French.
