(Brooklyn, NY) – Three children are in critical condition after they were trapped in an apartment fire yesterday in Brownsville, Brooklyn. It happened around 11:00 AM Sunday morning, along Livonia Avenue, at the Van Dyke Houses. The flames broke out inside the apartment, located on the 14th floor. Cops say the kids’ mom was at work, while their dad was arrested after allegedly leaving them unattended.

The NYPD has since charged the father with three counts of endangering the welfare of a child. It’s not clear what originally caused the fire to start.

Meanwhile, a separate fire destroyed a row of businesses yesterday in South Williamsburg. That fire is also under investigation. Ten firefighters were hurt, two of them seriously — but their injuries are not considered life threatening.
