(New York, NY) – Federal agencies, and members of the National Guard, are refusing to hand out yellow fliers urging migrants not to come to New York City. Mayor Eric Adams’ office has put together these fliers, which suggest migrants seek out “another city.” The New York Post reports a city official asked National Guardsmen to hand out the fliers, but they refused, as no superiors had signed off on the move.

At dozens of sites across the city, including hotels, emergency relief centers, and others, National Guard members are assisting and helping process migrants as they arrive from the southern border. But National Guard spokesman Col. Richard Goldberg told the Post they won’t be involved in handing out the fliers: “We are not. It’s not in our mission set. It’s not a mission set we can pass to our members.”

It’s not clear if the fliers will be allowed to be distributed at the border, when migrants are first coming into the US. New York City officials say essentially there’s no more room left at the inn, and they can’t guarantee migrants will be provided with services, including lodging.

Governor Kathy Hochul oversees all of New York’s National Guard units. Her office has not commented on the fliers situation.
