BBB Warns Of Prime Day Scams

(New York, New York) — Attention all Amazon Prime members, it’s that time of year again where you can score on incredible deals that are on par with Black Friday. Many products, stretching from home goods and groceries all the way to school supplies and technology, are given hefty price discounts for 48 hours, starting July 11th and ending on the 12th.

The event is an annual success for Amazon, with new discounts and products popping up each new year. But this time around, the Better Business Bureau (BBB) is warning customers to be on the lookout for retail scams. The BBB believes cybercriminals will prey on millions of innocent shoppers looking to score on cheap prices this Prime Day. But how?

Prime Day is all about speed— customers quickly purchase products so they can take advantage of as many deals as possible. That’s where the scamming comes in. Cybercriminals will send emails, texts and even push notifications to your phone with clickable links. They might appear like a shipping confirmation notification, which might lead you to quickly click the link while shopping on Prime. By doing so, you are subject to leaking your valuable and sensitive information to cybercriminals.

It is very easy to purchase a product and later receive a phony text with a fake link. So this Prime Day, the BBB says it’s imperative to make sure these notifications are authentic before clicking on any links.
