Con Ed Needs BIG Favor From Eastern Staten Islanders

(Staten Island, NY)— With temperatures inching towards the low 90s this week, Con Edison is advising Staten Islanders on the east side a big favor. The energy company reduced voltage by 8% in an area covering 62,800 residents in an effort to conserve energy while repairing two electrical feeders that are used to send power from substations to the grid.

To adjust to a lower voltage in an area with a high volume of residents, Con Edison is asking homeowners to avoid using “energy intensive” appliances such as washers, dryers, microwaves and limit the use of AC units– a big ask for Staten Island residents with temperature climbing into the high 80s and low 90s in the coming days.

No loss of power has yet been reported by Con Edison, according to its outage map. For now, east side residents of Staten Island will have to conserve electricity indefinitely as the electric company provided no time table for the repair.
