CDC Reorganization
(Miami, Florida) For the first time in 20 years, the United States is facing a Malaria scare. Both Folrida and Texas have reported Malaria cases, with active watch for more cases continuing, according to the CDC.With all five patients having received treatment– four reported cases in Florida, one in Texas– the risk of getting infected by a mosquito carrying Malaria is extremely low. Malaria is primarily transmitted through female mosquito bites; it is not contagious, although insects who bite the infected become carriers of the disease. It’s a serious and sometimes fatal disease and should be treated right away.
The CDC says it is working with the health departments in both states and the five people diagnosed and treated “are improving”.
