Stabbing Subway
(New York, NY) – There has been yet another subway stabbing. Last night, a 45-year-old man was stabbed during a dispute over a seat. The rider whipped out a knife and stabbed him in the stomach. Cops say this was during the evening rush aboard the 5 train at the 125th street and Lexington Avenue station.
Police say the victim was taken to the Lincoln Medical Center and with non life threatening injuries. The attacker immediately fled the scene and is still on the loose.
This attack adds yet another tally to the gruesome increases in knife stabbings reported in the city, particularly in the past week. Last Saturday, a gay man was stabbed to death over a drug deal gone bad and found on the 4 train at the Union Square Station. Three women were slashed in the leg in two separate unprovoked Sunday afternoon attacks at the 86th and Lexington Avenue and Brooklyn Bridge City Hall stations. All four attacks this past week were aboard the same train lines.
The NYPD Transit Bureau data reports that there has been a chilling 60% increase in the number of people possessing knives in the subway. So far this year, over 572 people have been arrested for carrying knives. This number is up from 358 during the same time period last year.
