(New York, NY) – The Bronx Bombers will kick off the 2023 season at home in Yankee Stadium when they take on the San Francisco Giants on Thursday. New York’s ace right hander Gerrit Cole will take the ball, opposing the Giants’ Logan Webb – who finished 11th overall in last year’s Cy Young voting. Yankees team President Randy Levine joined “Sid and Friends in the Morning” and discussed injuries in the starting rotation.

It’s been a rough spring for the Yankees health-wise, with starting pitchers Carlos Rodon, Frankie Montas, and Luis Severino set to begin the season on the injured list. Rodon’s injury is especially frustrating, after he was signed away from the Giants this offseason with a six-year, $162-million contract. He’s dealing with a forearm strain and hopes to return in late April or early May.
Meanwhile, the Yankees and their fans received a shot in the arm this past weekend when the club announced that top prospect Anthony Volpe will be the team’s starting shortstop this season. The 21-year-old native of Watchung, New Jersey will be the team’s youngest starting shortstop since Derek Jeter made his debut at age 20 in 1995.

Meanwhile, with the Mets set to begin the season on the road in Miami on Thursday, Sid asked Levine what he thinks of the Steve Cohen era.
